The Family Farm
FondoAranci is a family farm located on the slopes of Mt. Etna. For four generations the Cutuli family has produced citrus fruits, cherries, walnuts, and many other fruit varieties. Farming, in the ancient tradition of the Mt. Etna community, has always been close to the heart of each Cutuli generation. Working in harmony with the harsh, but fertile, volcanic environment - and with the knowledge acquired over the centuries - today they continue to farm in a natural and organic manner.
Visiting FondoAranci is not only a joy for your senses, it’s an experience of the growing seasons immersed in lush nature. Picking sun-ripened fruit from the trees with your own hands is a step back in time, and also a look forward towards a healthy and wholesome future. As the philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach once said, "We are what we eat!"
What about your personal guide, Maurizio?
Maurizio Cutuli was born on the Ionian side of Mt. Etna. He has vast knowledge of the customs, traditions, and culture of the people living near the sea and on the slopes of the volcano. They are close to his heart as are the fauna, flora, wine, and food of the area. As with many who were born here, Cutuli is fascinated by the connection between sea and mountain, and has equal passion for both.
Since his teenage years he has traveled abroad extensively, exploring each country’s history, art, and culture. Among his many activities are fishing, deep-sea diving, skiing, mountain climbing, photography, spelunking, and all activities connected with Mt.Etna. Over the years he has acquired special knowledge of volcanoes. After a distinguished career in law, in 1986 Cutuli became an official Alpine Guide.
He soon qualified as an Italian-English Tourist Guide and is often a featured speaker at meetings and lectures. He has collaborated with many prestigious nature/geographic magazines and international TV broadcasters as guide, author, and photographer. Cutuli lives in the town of Giarre, in the province of Catania.
